Canal Boat Hire Monmouthshire England

Monmouthshire's beautiful canals, including the historic Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, offer some of Wales's most peaceful and scenic narrowboat cruising. Built in the early 1800s to transport coal and iron from the valleys of South Wales, these tranquil waterways now glide through the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, past ancient stone bridges and traditional Welsh pubs.

Why Choose ABC Canal Boat Holidays

No Experience Required

Never steered a narrowboat before? Don't worry, most of our customers haven't either. We will give you a full demonstration and practice session before you leave the marina, covering everything. You'll also have our contact details if you need us while you're out on the water.

Fully Equipped Boats

We provide everything you need, from freshly laundered bedding and towels to a fully equipped kitchen with a cooker, fridge and microwave. There is comfortable seating and a dining area, hot water and heating throughout, and a bathroom with a shower, sink and flushing toilet.

Perfect for International Visitors

You don't need a licence or special qualifications. Our location in South Wales is easy to reach from major airports. Many of our overseas guests tell us a canal boat holiday showed them a side of Britain they'd never have seen otherwise.

Flexible Booking Options

We offer short breaks and long holidays to fit your schedule. Book for a long weekend if you're testing the waters, or take a full week to really unwind. You can start your holiday on different days of the week, not just Saturdays.

What Our Guests Say

Your recent holiday on Finch - Red Naped Finch from Goytre Wharf

All the people at ABC Boat Hire we dealt with were friendly, professional, and really knew their stuff. As complete novices, we weren’t quite sure what we were letting ourselves in for, but they explained everything clearly and got us up to speed in no time. It does feel a bit daunting at first, but after about five minutes you start to get the hang of it and wonder what all the fuss was about. We did have one minor “issue”, we couldn’t find the shower pump. That one was entirely on us… a quick call to the helpline, they pointed it out, and we both just looked at each other thinking, how on earth did we miss that?

Your recent holiday on Finch - Red Poll Finch from Goytre Wharf

Usual good friendly service at a base we've not been to before. Note this canal is not for first timers especially during the season as it is shallow and very wiggly. Best time is before Easter as the leafless trees allow stunning views and there are few boats on the canal.

Lovely scenery and the boat was great. Unfortunately the canal is very shallow and littered with broken tree branches and debris.

Boat was well prepared and ready to go on time, nice friendly staff, good instruction on the handover. Very handy parking next to the boat meant easy unloading from car to boat. Nice touches like milk in the fridge and teabags, felt welcoming.

Very professional friendly and thorough. The explanations before we set out were excellent, and clear very well-written file was left with us, which contained that information and more. The boat itself was very clean comfortable and well-equipped. Everything worked.
