Your recent holiday on Woodpecker - Green Woodpecker from Aldermaston Wharf

Outstanding weekend. Thanks to the team at Aldermaston for great service. The weather was fantastic and we had an excellent trip to Henley-on-Thames

Your recent holiday on Duck - Black Duck from March Wharf

The boat was great, the boatyard was great, but the canal lacks pubs or places to stop. Also it is a 5 hour motor to the tidal lock and you have to do it that afternoon. Those in the know had arrived early and had enough time. We arrived at 14.00 as advised by you and we were still motoring at 20.00.

Thank you, we will check with March Marina to see if we need to update our cruising suggestions on our website and in our brochure. In our route descriptions we do explain that March Marina is based in The Fenland Waterways, rather than on the canal network, therefore there will be more open countryside and less pubs. We always advise our customers to order a map before their holiday or to contact the marina if they need help planning their route. It's great to hear that you you enjoyed your holiday and that you were impressed by the staff at March Marina.

Your recent holiday on Dove - Emerald Dove from Gailey Wharf

Nice average boat. Maybe a good idea to book stepped collections rather than having 8 parties waiting for up to 3 hours to get on their way.

Between hires we need to allow enough time for cleaning, pump outs, re-fueling and of course any maintenance on the boats so our 2:30pm arrival time is based on this. Staggering arrival times can work when there are just a few handovers but when customers are travelling long distances to the Marina ultimately everyone arrives at the same time anyway! Of course guests are welcome to arrive a little earlier than 2:30pm and hope to get away sooner but we cannot guarantee that the boats will be ready before this time.

Your recent holiday on Weaver - Streaked Weaver from Blackwater Meadow Marina

This was our second canal boat hire with ABC. We have had a wonderful holiday both times. You see parts of the country you couldn’t see when taking a road trip.

Your recent holiday on Lark - Desert Lark from Falkirk

Staff was very helpful and friendly. The Desert Lark is a really nice boat! We particularly liked the extra bench seat for the dining table and the outdoor table, which allowed our group of 8 to eat together on the boat. We had a fabulous time going through the wheel and traveling to Edinburgh along the canal. We're looking forward to doing the section of the canal to Glasgow sometime after it reopens. Highly recommend ABC Boat Hire!

Boat smooth to drive and well laid out. Good route from Market Harborough

Your recent holiday on Goose - Upland Goose from Gailey Wharf

Certain aspects of "UPLAND GOOSE" were below the standard we have found over the years to be the level of ABC boats. The galley was NOT in any way as shown in your advertising, the layout was completely different. The galley was transverse to the boat and to be blunt, it was not big enough to 'swing a cat', the possibility of two persons working there was non-existent. The possibility of using the toaster, coffee machine and the hob at any time together was not really a viable proposition; to the extent that the coffee machine got damaged by the warmth from the hob. Had the galley been longitudinal to the boat, as shown in the layout pictures, we feel this would not have created this problem. We were that the toilets on this boat are supposed to be of the highest ecological standard, i.e. lower use of water as an example. This is in no way what we found. Most of the time it required between 2 and 4 flushes to clear, the economical flush never, repeat never cleared the bowl. These were without doubt the worst we have encountered on an ABC boat, and as a point I might add on any boat no matter which company or size. As a miner fault it would be suggested that the secondary step down to the floor level be much more high-lighted. It is acknowledged that with the mat in position this would show the edge of the step much clearer however we had to put the mat out as it was giving off a tremendously damp/musty smell, Unfortunately in removing the mat left the line of the step unclear to the extent that two members of the party had a couple of falls. In general the comfort of this boat was very high and the equipment (Catering) fully sufficient, not only in our case (Five party members) but for a fuller compliment of crew. Our biggest regret is that this seems to be the only boat with this 'standard' layout, that is available from Gailey to allow us to cover the 4 counties ring which we had intended to do this year and hope to do next year, subject to the Middlewhich link operational. Your recent holiday on Swan - Tundra Swan from Gayton

As a stag group looking for something different this was a perfect trip away for us, a peaceful journey down the canal visiting every pub on our route. As new comers to canal boating we were a little nervous at the prospects of being left to our own devices once we'd left the marina. However anytime we came close to having an issue a helpful local or other boaters weren't too far away to give us tips and advice about navigating the locks, where to eat or drink and even the best places to moor up in the evening. We all had an excellent time and are already talking about doing it again next year.

Your recent holiday on Bunting - Rock Bunting from Alvechurch

Very happy with all aspects of the boat and the service provided

Your recent holiday on Eagle - Sea Eagle from Hilperton

Sea Eagle was "tired" and in need of some refurbishment. Windows were covered in what looked like dried saliva from previous dogs. It was not easy to find stops for the night as the canal banks were totally overgrown and untended. The majority of good temporary moorings were taken by permenant residents. Overall, for the first time, we were left a little disappointed with the holiday although ABC can not be blamed for the canal issues.

Your recent holiday on Finch - Red Tailed Finch from Goytre Wharf

We loved the boat. The layout suited us well and we had everything we needed. The staff at the wharf were friendly and informative.

Your recent holiday on Grebe - Great Crested Grebe from Whitchurch Marina

great, relaxing experience helped tremendously by the assistance the guys at Whitchurch Marina provided. There isn't a better way to get away from it all, it's amazing how isolated you become from the mad rush.
