Our favourite canal, having travelled it twice before. Countryside is beautiful and the Llangollen turn around has some great things to see (climb to see Dinas Bran).

Very easy to book. Telephone operators were very helpful and made the process easy. I had to change the booking dates and they made this very easy too.

We did have a small issue with a lock being broken which affected our planned journey. We weren’t informed of this by our marina, however that hadn’t been told until I rang to let them know. Thankfully, two of our crew had waited by a winding hole as a boat going the other way had told them about the lock. They rang the two of us who had gone ahead to prep the lock, just as we discovered the broken lock, and therefore we were able to turn round. Having more notice about only being able to enter the Caen flight between 10 and 1 would have been helpful also.

A well equipped boat. A friendly and thorough handover. The one mechanical problem we had during the week (loss of electrical power) was resolved quickly over the phone. Two issues though: the water pump situated in the forward sleeping cabin made a noise every few seconds even when not in use. This meant that in order to sleep we had to turn it off at night - meaning no running water at night. This was a real drawback of the boat. Also the onboard wi-fi didn’t work most of the time so was of very little use.

I felt that the canal towards Bath was littered with to many canal boats moored that looked like they had been used as storage boats , But the way towards Devizes was beautiful and quiet , This is not a review against ABC as it’s not their fault but I do think the Canal and River Trust should do something about this . Next time we will go the Devizes way
