We thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd experience with ABC as we did with our 1st! When we handed back the boat (Shore Lark) based at Aldermasten we gave some verbal feedback to a maintenance man in the office. He was very appreciative and said this was the kind of feedback they found very useful. Namely that despite keeping the engine running for an hour after mooring the battery lost it's charge each night which then tripped the inverter.(the fridge went off about 2 30 each night) Also the TV at the rear of the boat did not work all week despite many attempts. Apart from these frustrations the 4 of us had a great time and look forward to our next canal adventure!

Good communication before the trip. Handover in office was hurried and it was difficult to take in all the information. Handover in boat was not very thorough but we did tell them that we were experienced. The on board manual was excellent.

The boat was good, comfortable and handled well. There were a couple of minor issues - but this did not detract from the experience.

We did the four counties ring and the Anderton boat lift. We enjoyed the wide range of countryside, canal features and interesting towns.

The service at the marina was very efficient we arrived early and they enabled us to get away early after listening to the instuctions and reminders. On Saturday morning we noticed the engine coolant level had dropped almost out of sight we topped up with water as per instructions at our takeover briefing,throughout Saturday the level dropped and was topped up again this was reported and arrangements to meet the mechanic at 1.15 on Sunday afternoon. Repairs were made and we were asked not to start engines for 24 hours or at least until morning. When attempting to start in the morning the engine wouldn't turnover so remembering our briefing we used the red key to link the batteries, that worked. When we came to stop engines in the evening the key wouldn't work the engine wouldn't stop. After a phone call and following instructions from the engineer we stopped engines, it was suggested that the engineer could meet us to try and fix the problem but we decided we didn't what to lose any more of our holiday time waiting on a mechanic. For the rest of the holiday we had to climb into the engine compartment to start and stop the engine. On return to the wharf on Friday we were unable to settle our fuel bill using my card following three attempts including a phone call which cut out so had to hunt around for cash, this was reportedly due to a poor connection.

Our boat was clean and tidy when we arrived to collect it. The staff were busy and seemed to have too much to do to greet us in a friendly manner. However that was completely reversed when we returned the boat four days later.
