We set out to do the Avon Ring in a single week. I had a fully timetabled schedule to ensure that we could track our progress. We left the boat yard promptly, and managed to keep a little ahead of schedule throughout. It was obvious that the boat had seen plenty of service, with some wear and tear on the inside, and many battle-scars on the outside of the hull. Nevertheless, the boat was in a good servicable condition, and (for a canal boat) handled well. We had no breakdowns or incidents, so it was easy to keep to our schedule. Weather was generally good, athough we did have rain for one long flight of locks. Fortunately the boat heating could be used to dry out afterwards. The Avon Ring is feasible in a single week. We had short breaks to visit Stratford-on-Avon, Evesham and Pershore. However other boaters might prefer to take 10 or 14 days over the trip.

Enjoyable holiday. The boat was fully prepared when we got to the yard, and ready to go. Everything worked. The staff were friendly and helpful. The handover was comparatively quick, and we were able to set off in good time. The boat (Rock Dove) was not new, so there was evidence of normal wear and tear around the boat. There were a number of battle-scars, especially on the starboard side of the hull left by previous hirers, but this did not affect our holiday. We completed the Avon Ring in one week without any issues.

Pros Great welcome and introduction. Boat in excellent condition . Cons Price of fuel needed for journey had . Unable to get in contact with Falkirk basin on the Sunday.

The Springwood Haven Marina is staffed by some very pleasant and helpful people. We had a most enjoyable weekend on our narrowboat.

Timely service and helpful staff made for a great experience. Need a plug filter on the bathroom basin as a previous guest had left an empty shower bottle blocking the u-bend! Otherwise, all was good as gold.

Our boat was comfortable and clean on the inside and well maintained on the outside.The staff were friendly and helpful before arrival and when we collected the boat. We will certainly be going with ABC again.

Our first holiday on a canal boat and had a jolly good time. Boat was lovely and very clean, it’s amazing how they get everything you need onboard. Staff were very friendly and helpful and contactable throughout our holiday. The only negative was the ‘free’ WI-FI. Yes it is free but very limited! The code has limited time and although when we rang they gave us a new code it is only intended for a brief looks at your phone. I had taken my laptop to enable us to watch Sky on the Go. You can’t do anything like this and the TV ariel signal is obviously poor due to area you are in. This was a shame as after some busy days, we had 122 locks on our trip, to sit and watch some telly would have been nice. Definitely something that needs pointing out to people as if you state free Wi-Fi people now expect there to be constant access. I ran out of my allocated data but there were places where you couldn’t get 4G so communication would be impossible.
