Blackwater is in a useful position Close to Ellesmere town, walking distance. Tesco even has a canal outside to top up shopping just before you go. Busy place , so get there early, you can unload your belongings on boat from 1.00pm. Our guide was with us about 3.00pm for our tour and chat about equipment on board.

Boat was good, plenty of room all round, kitchen well stocked with equipment. Perhaps more tuition for new travellers such as manoeuvring the boat ie reversing/turning around. You don’t realise it takes to aft much longer to straighten up

Overall great holiday. Making a reservation was easy. Lynn made the check-in process a snap. Martin went over the boat controls and systems thoroughly. He was a huge help in training us on how to operate the locks, as well. The boat was clean and everything worked flawlessly.

The boat was not ready for us when we arrived and although it was a tidy clean boat the ABC site said there was an induction hob and microwave which we had brought food according=ly to cook. We did struggle to cook what we had on the gas portable type hob.

We were supposed to be going to Wedgwood Visotor Centre before turning round. This was relayed to our instructor at Gailey. Unfortunately we were told by other canal users that you couldn’t get much further beyond Aston lock due to water levels over the prior 2 days. This should have been advised to us / Gailey Wharf by canal authorities along the Trent & Mersey before we set off or by the mobile no given to Gailey wharf. We had to turn around and re-route our planned journey, getting as far as Fradley Junction before coming back. As previously stated 2 hours is inadequate for 4 newbies. We glanced with several moored boats in the first couple of days - totally accidentally for which we apologised. We didn’t realise how much water we could take on - we thought the tank was full on every occasion, it clearly wasn’t and we had problems with blocked toilets.

Had a great day out with family and friends on a lovely, new electric narrowboat. Took a little while to master the steering but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely come back and would thoroughly recommend!
