Paperwork fine. Details accurate. Easy to follow directions to.marina. Friendly welcome. Good instruction for rest of team with no previous experience. Tidy craft. Side Hatch leaked in water from locks. Reported. " Nothing we can do about it". Yes there is. Get rid of dangerous side hatches. Draughts everywhere. Advised by staff that heating system cost a fortune to run and indeed considering where the hot air could leak out it invariably cost others a lot. I was informed we were one of the few craft to actually get money back at the end of the week. This is the end of my immediate ABC review other than to say the following. ABac erd to be realistic. I've been on canals for forty years. During our trip it took threehefty men to move one lock gate. ABC need to acknowledge that the Cut is an environment that requires some strength. It's not all sunshine and lock gear that works itself. It's tough. Over the week I observed aserioys deterioration of private owner conduct. The attitude towards hirers is appalling. One member of crew was run down by a private owner at speedcausing her to panic and fall down the hatch steps on another occasion upon the wind catching them and being forced into contact at low speed with another vessel, was verbally abused. Hardly encouraging fora new beginner. The situation on the Grand Union as to physically being able to moor is likewise impossible. Every bridge with a track or road has a do called constantly cruising craft moored with associated car parked above. These communities are everywhere. It's like cruising through alinear housing development. In some cases it having a negative impact for farmers and local businesses as there is no oppory to stop. I've written to the Chair of the All Party Committee on Inland Waterways because the situation is impacting on farmers as their fields are being invaded andCRT should be usingtheirpowrrs to enforce the rules which are eing openly flouted. Boat6/10 Canal infrastructure 4/10 Private Owners 6/10 The welcome ashore in the villages 10/10 wherever we went. I will never use the Grand Union again. There are better managed routes in the North where rules seem to eapplief more rigourously.

We've been using ABC boats for several years, so we knew what to expect. The 58foot boat we hired from Whitchurch marina was excellent, well-equipped, and very clean. Staff at the base were very friendly and helpful. The Llangollen canal travels through some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. But the view from the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct has to be seen to be believed; the bridge is so high up it's difficult to focus on the landscape below without feeling you're flying. Just make sure your young children and dogs are safe! No wonder it's been made a World Heritage Site. An unforgettable week - thank you ABC!

Side Hatch leaked in locks. Told on return."We can't do anything about it" Yes you can. Boat was draughty. " Heating costs a fortune" we were told. No wonder. You pay £1650 to shove towels in the gaps to stop yourself freezing. Not good.

This is the third time we have used ABC and like the previous times their service was 100% from the moment of booking through the whole experience. The boats are extremely comfortable and well equipped and the staff are very friendly and professional.
