These are strange times, and having been on tenterhooks for weeks to see if restrictions on travel and holidays would be lifted in time we struck lucky and two days after it was permitted we cast off. The welcome was terrific at the marina, the boat had been cleaned and all precautions were in place. A briefing on locks (never reached those!) and how the boat worked and off we go. The boat might have been well used but it was clean and everything worked as it should, and once you got your head round the best way to do things it all became second nature. With just a crew of two it's busier than you might think, not much time to gaze at the scenery on the Mon & Brec, but for me there was a joy in being differently busy for a few days. A word on the canal itself, which as it too was coming out of lockdown was weed-stricken in places, towpaths shockingly overgrown on the water side, and pretty shallow in places to the point where the poles were used regularly to ease off another grounding, especially after passing another boat. The overgrown towpaths and shallowness made finding a spot to moor quite a challenge in a few stretches. South of Goytre there are some lovely looking mooring points which can be reached ok with the plank but the ropes weren't long enough to take back to the boat. But I'm sure much of this was because of recent circumstances. This also accounted for a week on the water without being able to visit a pub, but as I said, strange times. Lastly a word for all the locals we met who were all very enthusiastic about seeing boats on the canal and were always cheerful and helpful when required. Have seldom needed a holiday more than I needed this one and so pleased it delivered.

We achieved the aim of our holiday Cruise. Weather was poor for July & could not see the Logic of removing the Foul Weather gear from the Boat. Their was not any airing cupboard to dry Damp clothing.

The boat was well prepared and handed over to us notwithstanding the lack of clarity about the likely state of the canal, as follows.. Our only problem was that we were the 1st boat out after the lockdown. As a result I was fighting the weed and, for some reason, the boat was bottoming out going through many bridges. This meant 2 hourly stops on day one and day 4 to lift the weed hatch and the CUT away the weeds from the propshaft. Had I not been confident this would have been a major hurdle.

The boat was excellent, the only complaint was the water it tasted funny, so we had to bottled water, to make tea or drink.

Very efficient handover by friendly staff. The boat was clean and well equipped. All the gear - ropes, controls, galley, bathroom were in good condition.

Fantastic boat. Well equipped, scrupulously clean and comfortable. There were only 4 of us on board but there would be plenty of space for 6. Excellent handover, all very much CV-aware. Good secure car park at the marina as well which is always a bonus.

The actual holiday was wonderful, even despite the weather! As novice canal boaters however, we certainly did not know "the ropes" and the handover was truly chaotic until Matt saved the day and showed some initiative to help us. A timed, staggered arrival may work better perhaps? As it were, there were groups of boaters all hanging around waiting to be able to go into the reception/shop with the receptionist there dashing off here there and everywhere ....took over 2.5 hours.
