The boat was not up to the standard expected. Certain aspects was not clean on handover, the general cleanliness of the boat was not good, in particular dirty and greasy cutlery and baking tins in oven, plus a dirty hob. The 240 volt electrical system did not work, despite a number of calls to the boatyard in an attempt to resolve this, resulting in being unable to use onboard hairdryer, microwave, toaster and mobile phone charging facility. The pillows were lumpy and very uncomfortable to use. The tunnel light was useless by being too weak, making passage of long tunnels very difficult.

We spent two weeks on the Black Duck Leaving from March Marina in Cambridgeshire. Our reason for going to March was to go to Ely and Cambridge. However we found out online about a week before that Salters Lode Lock was closed and had been all year as the silt build up in and around the lock was being cleared. We fully appreciate that these things need to be done but it would have been good to have been informed of this by ABC. We then were informed a couple of days prior to the start of our holday that Salters Lode Lock was now open. However for various reasons we decided to go in the other direction along the river Neen from March towards Whittlesey. Staff at Fox Narrowboats who run March Marina were friendly and helpful prior to our holiday and on arrival. The Black Duck was well presented, clean and tidy, with plentiful electric sockets and a good cooker and fridge. We found the lack of shelving and drawers in the kitchen for storage of everyday items frustrating. After a few days one of our two toilets became very very smelly and then the indicator on the toilet changed to say it needed pumping out. We were suprised at this as we were three people on a boat for 6 people. We were also suprised that there was no gauges for both the fuel tank and the water tank to indicate how much fuel and water we had. Having only one windlass was an inconvenience as previously we have always had two. There is a definate lack of moorings particularly at Whittlesey, on the Neen and beyond which is a shame as this is a lovely area to visit.

The staff at Falkirk boat hire were wonderful. They helped organise our visit and how to handle the boat. We were disappointed to find some issues with the boat. Unfortunately the mattress had mould on it which exacerbated my asthma. We did expect better.

The Stourport Ring was quite an arduous route with 118 difficult locks to contend with, and was certainly not a relaxing week.

The service provided by ABC at Wrenbury Marina was second to none from the moment you arrive from the super friendly Lady in reception through to the expert advice and tuition of Matt in the marina. Soon Picked it up and had a great time travelling to Ellsmere and back. Thanks a lot. We will be back.

Everyone at ABC Boat Hire was immensely helpful with any issues that arose along the way. We dropped the steering pin into the bilge and Andrew took personal time on a Sunday to deliver a new one to us that day. Following a medical mishap on our return route, Denise immediately came to the boat to navigate us back to the marina. Everyone at ABC Boat Hire was exceptionally helpful in all aspects of our narrowboat hire.

ABC Boat Hire's service was exceptional. From our initial contact, they kept us informed of all aspects of our upcoming boat hire. As first-time narrowboaters traveling from overseas (USA), we appreciated the availability of informational material they provided themselves or pointed us toward, as well as the tutorial at the start of our trip., which made everything go smoothly. We'll have fond memories of our experience along the Oxford Canal!

Great day out - Friendly team at the boat yard. We hired the 'day boat', they go through how to operate the boat, make sure you feel safe with everything before you set off. We'd some previous experience but the team will show you the ropes with locks and bridges if you need it. mini kitchen onboard plus toilet, relaxing day out as well as fun operating the locks. Highly recommend.
