Also great service from Zak who very capably took us through the boat’s facilities and piloted us out of the marina, all on his first day at Nantwich marina.

The boat was spotless and they were ready for us even tho we arrived an hour early. The instruction was thorough and they stayed on the boat with us to get out of the hairy busy bits near the marina. We went from Ellesmere to Trevor and back in 4 nights. We decided to bus from Trevor to Llangollen so we would have time to do the old railway trip and look around for half a day. 15 mins each way versus 3 hours each way cruising. This was a good decision for us with the time and a toddler. The trip was amazing, such beautiful scenery, so much wildlife and it REALLY slows you down with the pace of travel. Everyone on the waterways is so friendly and my 3yo was so popular waving at everyone it was lovely. I think this trip/route is the best of all with the variety of things to experience - 2 locks, 2 tunnels and 2 aqueducts each way. I had looked at hiring from multiple locations along the route but I believe Blackwater meadow worked the best in terms of getting to grips with the boat before tackling any obstacles which helped with driver confidence. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was absolutely mind blowing! What an amazing experience!! A family trip of a lifetime! Thank you Blackwater Meadow team!

This is the second time we have booked with ABC and would fully recommend them for the service they give, and the quality of the boats they hire out. Additionally, with the tie in they have with Tesco points, this helps keep the cost down for us. The boats are very well equipped with pretty much everything you would need and are in good running order. We had a problem with one of the toilets, which they would have been happy to come to fix, but as we had two toilets, it was not a problem for us.

The holiday was excellent - the boat is fully equipped with everything you would need. We had a couple of challenges with canal closures, but as long as you can be flexible with your routes, then this is not a problem. We did the Black county ring in the first week (as we had my daughter and boyfriend to share the load) and the second week we cruised up the Trent and Mersey to Mercia Marina and back. We had a day of rain, but ABC had provided waterproofs and umbrellas, so we stayed (relatively!) dry. The ABC rep at the marina for the handover quickly established that we are quite experienced boaters, so gave us the instructions tailored to our needs (and the legal requirements), so we were able to get under way relatively quickly. The boat was clean and tidy, with plenty of bedding and towels for our two weeks. One recommendation: I bought a set of walkie-talkies on Amazon before we came and they proved to be immensely useful - it is a long boat, locks can be noisy, and mobile phone signal is not always good on canals.
