We had booked seven weeks of canal travel on ABC narrow boats. But on arrival at the Aldermaston wharf marina we were told a crucial lock was damaged and most of the Kennet and Avon canal was cut off so we could not reach Bath as planned. Our receptionist did a great job of getting us an alternative booking for a boat on the Stratford canal.

The service from staff at Aldermaston was excellent. And the boat was very good.. But the planned trip was curtailed by a damaged lock. And we found about half the locks we did use were so leaky that operating the gates was actually impossible for our team of two retirees without extra help. We have been discouraged from returning to the Kennet and Avon for a third time.

Everyone was so helpful and really went out of their way to help us as foreigners to have a great trip. We were given comprehensive instructions on how to operate the boat and one of their experts stayed with us to get us safely through our first lock on the canal. We had a truly wonderful holiday.

The views on the union canal were so beautiful. Going up the Falkirk wheel was an amazing experience. It was relaxing to drift along seeing the Scottish countryside.

Great service very helpful always available if you need assistance. The lady who greeted us was welcoming and helpful. The only let down was the Wi-Fi which kept running out.

Everyone was very helpful and got us away on time, they had the safety guide in place so we could watch it and they gave us a talk on how the locks work, talked us through the boat, very organised.

The Canals were very peaceful we never waited for a lock, tunnel or aqueduct . We had a great week of stunning countryside and English pubs.

The staff at the Union canal were all amazing. From emails that we sent before we went, to the check in the customer service team were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. The friendly and informative explanations during the boat handover, the staff on the canal side, making us feel at ease and helping us on our journey. All done with such cheeriness. We encountered a couple of unavoidable problems during our holidays and these were attended to with speed and effectiveness. We couldn’t rate the Scottish canal/abc team highly enough and would recommend them to anyone considering a boating holiday. They are there to support customers and seem genuinely interested in making sure that customers have a wonderful time. We can’t wait to return.

This was our first boating holiday. We had some reservations before we left. These were dealt with by the team via email and during the handover. We enjoyed it so much we spent some time looking for another trip whilst we were still there.
