We enjoyed our narrowboat holiday away, we have booked with ABC numerous times over the years and their boats have been perfect but not this time unfortunately. The boat was clean, well stocked and comfortable but we had problems with the pump which hindered our holiday and meant we had to keep switching the pump off when not using the boat engine, ie when not cruising or we would drain the battery flat, therefore not having any electric. Secondly we feel the boat had not been prepared for us before taking it out as on day 5 we had to return for a toilet waste pump out which we had never had to do before. On arrival to take the boat out on the first day we had no DC power, we had a flat battery. Sadly these issues spoilt our holiday.

Could be better. On the cooker one hob did not work, the oven did not light automatically none of the markings were clear. There were no tea towels. The vacuum cleaner was rubbish (it was better after we cleaned the filters). The boat had a list. At the end of the holiday there was no one at the boatyard to hand over to until 8:30!

Due to lock stopages on the Macclesfield and Peak Forest because of low water levels in the reservoirs we weren't able to do our planned route. No great shakes as we were able to have a look at the Llangollen for the first time. A beautiful stretch of inland waterway.

The road approaching the marina has been closed and we needed to navigate our way through a housing estate using Google Maps. Updated directions may have helped here. Nevertheless we arrived just before they closed and were warmly welcomed by Sue in reception. Our boat (NB Laughing Gull) had been immaculately presented by the cleaning team though there was a rather fusty smell coming from the aging carpets. We quickly aired the boat but the smell did linger throughout the week. A good carpet cleaner may well alleviate this. We were giving an in depth briefing on the boat by Jim and although we could have set off after that, we decided to remain moored up in the marina overnight. We have had many years experiencing the inland waterways on our own and other privately owned narrow boats and were impressed with the fixtures and fittings, how the boat handled and especially the very efficient heating system. If NB Laughing Gull is anything to go by for the rest of ABC's fleet, I would have no hesitation in rating them very highly.

Very helpful in the run-up to the trip enabling us to make a realistic plan our weekend and do everthing we wanted. They were happy that we used our own non-inflatable lifejackets for the youngest children who might have fiddled with the self inflating ones and very understanding about the accidental inflation. Less impressed with cleanliness on taking over the boat.

Well equipped and comfortable, although less comfortable for the older and larger people. But they're not called narrow boats for nothing!
