We had a lovely midweek break with ABC at Blackwater Meadow Marina. Staff were helpful and friendly and tried to process us all as efficiently as they could so we could get on our way. The boat was in good repair, comfortable and had all you really needed. We brought extra stuff but I would say don’t bother - storage is limited. Bring only what you need. Also only need provisions for the first day or two. Plenty of options to get extra supplies along the way

Honestly, I felt proud to be in charge of a boat that was so spotlessly clean and well-looked after, inside and out. All the ABC boats are absolutely beautiful, and very well maintained too. When we arrived, we were immediately shown to the boat and allowed to bring our bags and bits aboard and check everything was to our satisfaction (it was). We received a comprehensive health & safety briefing first in the marina building (including all we needed to know about operating locks) and then from an engineer on the boat itself. We were shown exactly how to operate the boat, as well as daily tasks such as lubricating the prop shaft and pumping the bilge, and we were shown in detail how to isolate the gas, diesel and electrical supplies in the event of any emergency. Most impressively, the services on the boat such as the kitchen taps, bathroom, toilet, shower etc., all work normally, just as they would on-shore... all you have to do is top up the water tank when you go past a tap. Our only criticism is that it is a bit of a faff (and you need to be quite strong) to convert the lounge/diner furniture into a double bed. I'm not sure my wife would have been able to do it on her own - it was a struggle for me and I'm a big strong builder! When we returned to the marina at the end of our holiday, everything was just as efficient - and we were even refunded for the fuel we hadn't used. Overall it was a marvellous experience and we will definitely do it again. It goes without saying that we will hire the boat from ABC next time too!

Overall very good but the boat was getting old and needed attention. Starter motor not working; needed a hammer tap to get going. Door handle fell off. Also would have been good to be warned about restricted hours at locks 54 and 55.

The toaster did not work ,a little more instruction in putting the bed together would help, ie where the shorter legs were .

We had a fantastic holiday on board Lucy’s Warbler. The boat was very well equipped, clean and modern inside. Very picturesque route (Llangollen canal). Very helpful staff at the marina both prior to departure and on return.

The boat was generally ok, well equipped with most items you would need for a great holiday, however the mattresses on the beds in particular the two singles were completely unacceptable and meant that who ever tried to sleep here couldn’t get a good nights sleep. The toilet does smell and I’m not sure if that’s just the type of toilet it is or whether it has a fault. We had to turn the water pump off at night as it would keep kicking in making a noise.

We loved the Dartford Warbler as soon as we saw it. The traditional decoration is beautiful and prompted the children to ask about castles, immediately immersing them in canal history. The holiday was all we hoped for. People on the canal were friendly and helpful.

We had a fabulous holiday on the rivers. Instruction was good, but a little more detail.on the steering and reversing would have made it exceptional (and a little easier)
