The staff and boat were great. A log jammed in our propeller and the engineer was out to us within an hour to knock it loose with a crowbar. Everything worked as expected and it was a great trip. It was our first narrowboating, and we thought we'd do the Birmingham mini-ring. But that's near impossible in 5 days (3 days really, since you pick up the boat at 3pm day 1, and return it 9am on day 5). But we still had fun pootling around. The scenery was not the greatest, (a lot of residential and an hour in a tunnel coming and going), so I wouldn't recommend our route for people who intend to enjoy the beauty of the countryside, but I have every confidence that my next narrowboat holiday will be smooth sailing because I mastered skippering on this one. =)

Boat comfortable and easy to use Toilets seem to have a problem as needed pump out after 3 days with only 6 of us on board. We thought this may have ben due to amount of water they used by design. Due to water shortage and lock closure couldn't travel as far as we had hoped. We would have liked to have been informed of this prior to arrival at marina so that we perhaps could have planned a different route. WIFI data limit soon reached and although reset once after 'phone call to marina, even with minimal use seemed to max out again very soon.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found our Warbler Class boat comfortable! The toilets on board do have two flushes, a short flush and a long flush, perhaps if the full flush was being used each time this could explain why you needed a pump out after 3 days. Short term stoppages and restrictions are normally discussed during the boat handover as marina staff have local route knowledge and can advise guests accordingly. For customers who are planning a route ahead of their holiday we do encourage them to check the Canal & River Trust website to keep up to date with any changes and to contact the marina for any advice. We had a great time on the narrow boat and the Llangollen Canal had some spectacular scenery. We had so much fun operating the many locks and drawbridges along the way too. Great to share with friends.

Introductory guidance was insufficient for beginners. Hands-on training e.g. for turning, mooring etc.would have helped us. We were told that handling a 68ft boat would not be much more difficult than a 49ft boat. There were only three of us. We think this was not good advice for people on their first trip.

first trip on canal boat, pleasantly surprised, it took an hour to become fully confident steering though. A lot to take in on introduction but full written instructions were provided. The video and demonstration on lock usage was very good but 2 days later when we actually got to a lock we were a little confused and couldn't get no volunteer lock gate helper on the phone and we were unsure and it was trial and error.

Very enjoyable time on board our narrowboat. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be having another narrowboat holiday

It was a good experien. The boat was fine, we had some problems with the battery for daily use. Nice weather, not much traffic at the canal. Nice personell at abc boathire.
