Second time we have done this and loved it again. The only minor thought (which is out of your control is the litter in the canals) we got the kids a little fishing net and a bag each and gave them a challenge of filling their bag with litter from the canal. We thought it would be a good idea for the hire company’s to issue each child a bag and a net and say if they fill the bag with canal litter they will get a prize at the end of the week (badge/ice cream/certificate etc)

Well appointed boat but the beds were harder and smaller that expected - not helped by the 4 degree list to port that the boat had.

We hired a 66ft boat from Hilperton for 4 night. The boat was well equipped, clean and was perfect for our trip. Staff were very efficient and helpful. We set off from Hilperton and cruised to Bath and back over the 5 days, it was an amazing experience and one that we will definitely be repeating. You can tell when it’s been a successful holiday, enjoyed by all when nobody wants to leave. Thank you to everyone at ABC for making our first canal holiday a special one with plenty of memories to treasure.

Part of my family for generations were watermen, or flatmen, working out of Northwich. I wanted to get some idea of what life was like for them. The boat was superb, well fitted out and clean (probably unlike my ancestors' boats). The experiences of navigating bridges and locks, mooring and manoevering the boat were entirely new to me. During our 10 days aboard the boat we gained a lot of experience and by the end we could handle the boat fairly well (the only exclusion is reversing which we couldn't quite get the hang of !!). An excellent experience all round.

Boat - Red Billed Finch was fine. Everybody very smiley & helpful. Amazing scenery on the way to Brecon & back to Goytre.
