this was our first time renting a narrowboat. the reservation process was easy. the introduction and explanations were clear. they took the time to ensure we were ready and happy to go out alone! the narrowboat we hired was in a great and clean condition with a good inventory (including extra blankets and rain jackets!).

had a great time. 5 adults, 2 kids and 1 dog! it was our first time so wasnt sure what to expect! we made it to Newbury and back over the 3 days with a few stops along the way...

This is our third holiday with Blackwater Meadow Marina, they have always been great, clean modern boats. A good comprehensive handover, they make sure you know what you are doing before leaving you. I would highly recommend using them.

Staff pleasant and helpful. Good new boat, however departure delayed until 10.25 instead of 10.00 despite us arriving at 9.30 as required. As this was a day hire we lost cruising time. As a party of 8 we found the cabin table too small to lay out lunch properly. Although the cabin roof extends beyond the enclosed cabin, providing an outside covered area which has a second small table, overnight rain had left seating beneath it wet and not usable. We could not see anything to dry it with. We are used to boats with gas cookers and heating. We could not heat the soup brought for lunch as our large pot was not suitable for an induction hob. A note on this in the confirmation paperwork for electric boats without a gas hob would be a useful heads up. These small inconveniencies aside we had a good day out with weather much kinder than forecast.

as previously stated, an easy to acces (laminated A4 paper) showing water stops, winds etc along the canal would have been great.

Very friendly staff and good instructions for use of boat. Maps of locations of water and winds for turning boats would have been helpful and a map of the canal too, without having to buy a book. Boat was clean and well prepared.

The crew was 5 mature males, 2 of who had previous narrow boating experience. The newbies had a wonderful time and had the opportunity to experience locking, travelling through tunnels and across aqueducts. The weather over the weekend was both wonderfully sunny and pleasant for October but also wet and windy due to a storm that came through on the Sunday morning, so both the best and worst if narrow boating was experienced. All crew members are looking forward to future opportunities to spend time on the cut.

The boat was well appointed and equipped. The staff at the boatyard were very pleasant and helpful. The boat was available through a pecial discount offer for the month of October and significant savings were had as a result of this.
