During this 4 night trip there was but one pub riverside and you could not moor outside as this was lock waiting area. You travelled on and moored on a seriously difficult and overgrown bank to which the gangplank would barely reach. This is how the trip continued. Only once did we find decent mooring in Newbury where another boat had just left. The rest of the time we moored out in the wilds and walked half a mile to get fed. We found the stretch of Canal between Aldermaston and Hungerford badly under-maintained. With banks so overgrown no change of scenery was apparent. Locks were leaky and difficult. One gate required the efforts of three of us to open it where the gate walkway dragged on the bank. Another had the walkway closed. Another seemed to be dragging along the bottom. There were hardly any other hire boats on our route. The ones that were, like us, probably had not done enough research on that particular stretch of canal.

Did the stourport ring, the river severn part went very well river was like a millpool. Fantastic weather, guess we were lucky.

Good boat,with a few issues, back sink was blocked with hair and gunk that we had to clean out, also sky hatched leaked when it rained

The barge was in excellent condition and well equipped. The staff were, without exception, friendly, courteous and helpful.

We chugged through history - it was grand fun. Once we got it that everything has to be done super slowly, the driving was not difficult. I am not sure why it is not possible for me to enter 'Excellent' for the rating for the Marina. I would rate it Excellent if I could!
