Great boat, ideal short break for taking first timers

Booking with ABC was straightforward as usual and we received a great discount. We picked up our boat at Falkirk Wharf, and the staff there are fantastic. We went up the Falkirk Wheel to Edinburgh and thoroughly enjoyed our week. We did have one issue though. We wanted to take the boat to the Kelpies but we’re told that the locks on the route were closed due to lack of water, we rang later on our journey to see if they had opened and again were told no. On our return to the hire base on the Friday we found out they had been open during the week so we were really disappointed at our communication with the Scottish Waterways staff. Apart from this I’m certain we will be back hiring another boat from ABC next year!

We had a cracking week from Wrenbury, and I can't praise the booking team (especially Jade) and the yard enough for sorting out my error as to our start/finish dates. Exemplary. We've hired boats, largely from ABC, for 40 years plus, but this one was a bit disappointing. Three points especially; 1. The rear berth was set up as a double, but could have been two singles; as a result, I think of that dual function, there was a decided dip in the middle with what seemed to be two (and a bit) single mattresses zipped together, which made sleeping uncomfortable. 2. The saloon was small, and we struggled to sit five of us (including two children) comfortably. This seemed to be much smaller than the other boats and was too small a space for us all to relax in at the end of the day. 3. The thee ring hob in the kitchen took up a lot of space, especially since one ring was under the smoke alarm. The real problem, and the danger, was the metal saucepans with metal handles which heated up with the pan, and were the cause of one potentially serious accident involving a dropped pan and boiling water , and regular near misses. I appreciate that not much can be done about the configuration of the boat, but those saucepans are potentially very dangerous. Regards, John Priddle

Gailey to Norbury, mostly beautiful scenery and so relaxing. We found it so good, we spent all our time cruising.

Boat was excellent, service was excellent including Nigel’s briefing and advice. We also purchased a canal companion at the office which was great. There is really nothing we could suggest for improvement, we had the best time! Oh, and the weather was very good too 🙂

Hand over was swift and precise, we got going early which is always a bonus. Very helpful staff and they came out to us when we had a problem. Couldn’t fault them. A worthy trip up the Thames to Henley. Definitely coming back next year.
