I have used Alvechurch in the past and have hired from other Marinas or used other companies in Scotland for Loch and river cruisers. Golden Eagle was in a VERY tired condition with the Hatch over the Galley leaking badly, flooding the area on the first night's heavy rain. We held up for several hours above Blackpole Locks while someone from the boatyard came out to seal the hatch. We then continued and experienced further heavy rain and despite the attempted repair the hatch continued to pour water. We had to run the heating almost constantly to dry the floors. We rang Worcester to explain and asked if it could be dealt with when we reached Alvechurch, which we did not make until after closing. Next morning we reported in to the office who had no notification that we had any problems. The maintenance engineer had been deployed to another remote job and we had to sit in the Marina for most of the morning until someone became available to seal the hatch . A permanent repair was eventually completed and we had no further leaks. The springing in the beds and benches was worn out and offered no support when sitting or sleeping. Some of the wardrobe door latches did not work and had to be gaffer taped shut to stop them banging. The Vacuum cleaner filter was solid with caked dust and reduced suction to almost zero.( We cleaned, washed and dried this so that we could leave the boat in a clean condition). The hooks for the wet weather gear in the aft compartment were bent almost straight so that when any garment was hung up, it landed on the floor. Our Main complaint is that we lost a days cruising time waiting for repairs. This meant that we could not complete the Stourport ring or go into Birmingham and return. Because of the lost day, we could not then complete the Droitwich Ring because by the time we arrived there, the Severn was in spate so we had to come back.

We thought the boat was excellent. Fitted out very nicely with comfortable beds and furnishings. Good size bathrooms.

Our first narrowboat experience and we loved it. The boat was very clean and.hand over was first class. We enjoyed it that much we have booked again for early 2021.

The fixed seating arrangement on Yellow Wagtail needs looking at as it is difficult to get past the jutting table end an support leg to get in and out of the seat. For a larger/heavier person, it would be virtually impossible. Also, the mooring ropes should be a bit longer. Otherwise we were very pleased with the boat which was well equipped, with good storage space, good lighting and very good bathrooms.
