The boat was well prepared and handed over to us notwithstanding the lack of clarity about the likely state of the canal, as follows.. Our only problem was that we were the 1st boat out after the lockdown. As a result I was fighting the weed and, for some reason, the boat was bottoming out going through many bridges. This meant 2 hourly stops on day one and day 4 to lift the weed hatch and the CUT away the weeds from the propshaft. Had I not been confident this would have been a major hurdle.

The boat was excellent, the only complaint was the water it tasted funny, so we had to bottled water, to make tea or drink.

Very efficient handover by friendly staff. The boat was clean and well equipped. All the gear - ropes, controls, galley, bathroom were in good condition.

Fantastic boat. Well equipped, scrupulously clean and comfortable. There were only 4 of us on board but there would be plenty of space for 6. Excellent handover, all very much CV-aware. Good secure car park at the marina as well which is always a bonus.

The actual holiday was wonderful, even despite the weather! As novice canal boaters however, we certainly did not know "the ropes" and the handover was truly chaotic until Matt saved the day and showed some initiative to help us. A timed, staggered arrival may work better perhaps? As it were, there were groups of boaters all hanging around waiting to be able to go into the reception/shop with the receptionist there dashing off here there and everywhere ....took over 2.5 hours.

It was a perfect experience. Everything went to plan and nothing could be faulted with the boat..lovely shower and everything one would need in the kitchen to make good hot meals..would highly recommend

Some issues with boat - hot water airlock meant 36 hrs no hot water. Heads tanks filled FAR quicker than expected so had to manage toilet use in second half of the week.

A great effort by Gailey Marina to get operating so quickly after lockdown. Our boat was beautifully clean and the whole week was great.

We enjoyed our route up the Ashby although it is a bit silted so you have to travel in the middle of the canal or risk getting stuck. The boat was a little bit old and tired feeling. The flooring had lots of marks and gouges. But overall it was very clean and supplied with tea, coffee, washing up liquid and other essentials- very useful. We had a small technical problem and the marina couldn’t have been more helpful - Ian, the technical engineer was efficient, helpful and thorough.
