Your recent holiday on Thrush - Chestnut Thrush from Anderton

The boat was clean and comfy, and the kitchen well-equipped with good quality pans etc. The beds were excellent. The central heating - on the sole day we needed it - was very quick and effective, though unfortunately it caused a lot of condensation. I don't know what could be done about that. The bathrooms were clean and well-fitted out (although the toilet in one had not been fixed quite securely to the floor, something we mentioned on our return, in case of possible health-and-safety issues). The radio was excellent - Radio 2's Popmaster is essential listening - and the TV/WiFi were too whenever the signal allowed. My husband felt that the engine worked very well, with sufficient power and steerage to get him out of rare emergencies such as meeting another boat head-on at a blind bend. The central mooring line was very useful to him because, due to my inexperience and there only being two of us, it allowed him to bring the boat safely into the side on his own, leap off and secure temporarily before mooring properly fore and aft. He felt the headlight was adequate for tunnels but would have been better placed in the centre rather than the side. The awful weather on our last day meant the waterproofs and umbrella were extremely useful to him.

Your recent holiday on Duck - Long Tailed Duck from Whitchurch Marina

The weather didn't help but boat fine, easy to control.Little bit thirsty but we were using heating a fair amount as overnight temp1C on a couple of nights. When weather improved, went to excellent!

Your recent holiday on Bunting - Little Bunting from Aldermaston Wharf

The overall holiday was fine, Just a few things wrong, firstly the roof leaked, causing problems sleeping,(water dripped on to the galley bed),Second the bolt on the rear door was missing, noticed by my wife when taking over the boat, It was fixed, but should of been spotted before, We noticed some of the fixings along the bottom of the galley had come away, Should of been better secured.

The boat was perfect for our needs, all the staff from the handover to the lock operation were friendly & helpful and the scenery beautiful. Shame about the canal closures but we got to see everything we wanted to anyway.

Your recent holiday on Eagle - Imperial Eagle from Alvechurch

The boat was clean, comfortable and well equiped. It fell down on a leak at the stern (not stern gland) which flooded the engine compartment in one night stop. An emergency callout engineer pumped, dried and restarted we then had to pump the bilge hourly. This was a known fault on "Imperial Eagle".This also forced us into the situation of potentially polluting the waterway! We found that having to run the engine both to start and run the heating at night unsatisfactory and would suggest that the engine start and heating batteries should be seperated, it is non-sensicle to have them on the same system.

Friendly, efficient staff. Well equipped boats. We've used ABC on many occasions and they're always there at the end of the phone, even if it's just for advice. Would have been useful to have known about lock restrictions before we arrived, but we adjusted our schedule accordingly.

Although we do contact customers who may be affected by stoppages prior to their holiday it is part of the boat handover to discuss any restrictions that may be in place at the time of the holiday. We do also encourage our guests to check the Canal & River Trust website when planning their route or of course they can contact the Marina at any time leading up to the holiday.
